Wake Up!

02_Feb_Wake Up

The alarm was set as it usually is to wake me up early so I can have some precious alone time with the Lord before I tackled my duties of the day.

Something stirred me from my sleep but it wasn't my alarm! An uneasy feeling swept over me and I opened my eyes to see the sun had risen.  This could only mean one thing ... I slept through my alarm and I wasn't sure how late I was! Did I still have a few moments in which to gather my thoughts, pray and read my Bible?

The answer ... not much time at all! I had soundly slept well past the time I had allotted for my quiet time and now I had to launch into the day feeling unprepared!  O dear!

Somehow this effected my mind set all the daylong because I love those moments alone with the Lord before my busy days begin. I had missed out on something I deem essential and an integral part of my living.  Missing out on being alone with God seemed to have a greater impact than missing a meal or some other important part of daily living.

I later discovered that when I had set my alarm the night before I had accidentally instructed the alarm to sound in the evening instead of in the morning. Well, that wasn't very helpful but it was very good to know that I hadn't slept through all the noise my phone alarm makes :)  It just didn't sound at all!

Thankfully, now I knew it wasn't my fault, and I knew the Lord understood I was comforted and looked forward to stealing some time with Him in the evening instead.

I suppose something like this happens to almost everyone from time to time but it made me think about all the 'alarms' around us alerting us to the time in which we are living.  We are living in the very end of the end times and all the craziness we witness on a daily basis verifies this fact.

Everything in current affairs as they are presented to us daily in the media point to the fact that -

Something is about to happen any minute now!

Globalism appears to be the up and coming new world religion. The truth according to the Bible is rejected, and those who stand for it are hated with passion. The life of a baby in the womb is not the precious thing it out to be. Confusion reigns since the question of genders has arisen. Anti Semitism is growing at an alarming rate. The enemies of Israel are at their borders! And what are the world leaders trying to negotiate in their meetings together? Peace and safety! I hear those words mentioned frequently and when I hear them I am reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul who wrote:

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety;
then sudden destruction cometh upon them,
as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day:
we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love;
and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God
hath not appointed us to wrath,
but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ."
I Thessalonians 5: 3-9.

May I gently remind all who are reading this today to wake up out of your slumber, the alarm bells are ringing, our redemption is drawing near, the promise of the coming of our beloved Lord Jesus is nearer than what we thought, and to use the words of someone I heard on YouTube the other day: 'Soon we fly'!  Soon we will hear the call to rise up and come away from this sad old world and system that has rejected the only One who can give them hope.

The wrath to come will arrive not long after all of God's people will have been removed and transported into His glorious presence. We will not be here when this world goes through suffering and tribulation the likes of which has never been seen on earth before. As quoted in the verses above: 'God has not appointed us to wrath but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.'

But what about those who have been left behind? Who are they?

If you haven't yet trusted in the Lord Jesus, you are at great risk of being among those who are left behind to suffer the wrath of God that is to be unleashed upon this world in a soon coming day.

Bless God, that there is the opportunity to escape and be counted in among those who have the 'blessed hope' to look forward to. But don't waste a moment of time, because He is coming soon, very soon.

Everyone who escaped God's judgements in past ages came to a place of safety the same way people must do today. They escaped by trusting in God's remedy for their dilemma. All of God's remedies in the past looked forward to the ultimate remedy when Jesus went to the cross as the substitute for lost sinners. His precious blood was shed in payment for the tremendous debt we owe. The work He accomplished has bridged the gap between the sinner and the living God. The work is finished. Nothing to do but trust!

"What must I do to be saved?
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved ..."
Acts 16: 30-31

It is as simple as that! But remember, though the work is done, and all we need to do is simply trust or believe on Him, let us never forget that it was never simple for God.

It cost Him everything to save you from the wrath to come.
It cost Him His Son.

It cost the sinless Saviour broken fellowship with God for the first time in eternity while bearing our sin in His own body on the cross. He bore the wrath we deserve because God is not willing that anyone should perish. This is the work that He has already done for you to completely trust in, lean heavily upon and be associated with.

Wake up, dear friends, Jesus is coming soon, the hour is late, and you need to be ready!
