"Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:13.

So much water has gone under the bridge since the day when the Lord came into my life and made me His own.

I was a rock bottom teenager with nothing left to lose! And that's when I learned about 'the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me'. Galatians 2: 20.  For me, the sinner with no hope!

I was lonely, and longing for someone to genuinely love me, and I looked in vain in all the places and among all the folks one would naturally turn to. But before too long I finally gave up looking there because I had been given a promise some years before and I trusted that God would be true to His Word, and He was! This was His promise to me:

"Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:13.

I opened my Bible and began to search the Scriptures for what I had been longing for, and discovered that I had a great problem, which helped me to understand the emptiness I had in my soul. The problem was my sin, and it was my sin that was separating me from God who I was longing with all my heart to find.

After months of searching, praying, questioning, I finally bowed the knee and trusted in the sinless Man who suffered, bled, and died on the cross as my Substitute. This was the moment I was 'born of God' and made a member of His family.

This is when life for me began ... Forty years ago!
(The Journey in more detail here)

I have learned a tremendous amount since then. Not all in one go I have to say, but a little here and a little there. Bit by bit, day by day. Through one experience after another I began to learn things about the personality of the Wonderful One who promised to be with me forever from the moment I trusted in Him.

I have known seasons of incredible joy and equally I have known seasons of incredible sorrow, and although I wouldn't invite those times of suffering into my life, I wouldn't have done without them either!

I have learned some of the most incredible things during those darkest hours in my life. I have gone through enough of them to know that:

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
Psalm 30:5.

Suffering doesn't last forever! Thankfully, I can testify of the wonderful fact that having gone through many experiences of suffering, there has always been something incredible to gain because of those experiences. Rather like harvesting pearls from an oyster. Those precious gems would not be possible without the oysters suffering.

But what are my pearls? What are those treasures gained through my trials? I have to say that these are the precious things I learned about the character of the One in whom is all my hope and trust?

Like the apostle Paul I can confidently declare ...

The things I know about my beloved Lord and Saviour I wouldn't exchange for any treasure this sad old world could ever give. Nothing can be compared to knowing Him.  Absolutely Nothing!

But how did this happen? Well, like everything else that has come my way, it never happened all at once! I didn't learn everything all in one go and I haven't been given all I possess all at once! The One who I know so well after all those years is the result of a relationship that has been built upon, established and grown one day at a time ... Over forty years!

Even though I cannot see Him, He is more real to me than much of what I see with my eyes, because most of what we see in front of us is fake and fleeting. But my unseen beloved Lord Jesus is the rock upon which I have laid the foundations of my faith and the lens of truth through which I view everything around me.

Perhaps to you that might sound rather strange, but let me tell you by experience -
This is the life.  This is truly what it means to live!

It might entail a constant swimming upstream but when the majority of those around me appear to be going in one direction, I am homeward bound!

By faith I see the end of the course ahead of me and I am aiming ...

"... for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3: 14.
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith ..."
Hebrews 12: 2.

Everything around me tells me it's not long before He is going to fulfil the promise He declared to His people:

"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again,
and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
John 14: 3

There is a company of God's people who are earnestly awaiting this promise and I am among them!  It fills my soul with joyful anticipation and enriches every moment in waiting. The promise of His coming brings meaning to every moment of each and every passing day along with the earnest desire to invest not in this world but in eternity.

Won't you come with me on this most incredible journey and trust Him too? Every moment from this moment onwards could be yours to make the most of. And walking with the One 'whom to know is life eternal' * is something that simply cannot be compared to anything the heart could ever imagine.

Come with me and with Him, and you will be eternally glad you did!  You see ... I know!  :)

* See John 17: 3.
